Telegram is a highly secure messaging app similar to WhatsApp, except that you can use it on all your devices whereas with WhatsApp you can only use your phone unless you connect your computer to your phone by scanning a QR code.
Telegram, like WhatsApp, uses your phone number to text you a security code to login with, though you can also use 2-step verification and add a password, making it even more secure.
The difference is that you aren't tied to one device so you can use it on your phone, tablet, laptop, and the web by simply signing in with your phone number like you would on your phone without having to scan a QR code and be reliant on your phone.
Notable features of Telegram:
- Secure: With Telegram, you have to have your phone to login because it texts you a security code to log in with. In addition, you can set up two-step verification with an additional password, so for someone to log into your account in that case they’d have to have your phone and know your password.
- Fast: Telegram is very fast and works on even the weakest WiFi and data connection. Take it from us - we've tried it and the speed is very impressive.
- Cross-platform: Telegram has official apps for Android, iOS and Windows Phone and there are third-party clients for Chrome (for those using a Chromebook/Chrome OS). There is an official desktop client you can download at telegram.org for Windows and Mac, and also a web version you can access from any browser.
